Lawrence Wiebe is a semi-retired family physician who worked in Rutland for 32 years and handed off his practice in 2019. Since then, professionally, he continued to work part time as one of the physicians of the Bridge Withdrawl Management team who help clients detoxing from their substance addictions. In addition Lawrence assists in the operating room for the orthopedic surgeon group once or twice a week.
Lawrence was born and raised in Kelowna spending his formative years living in Glenmore attending Glenmore Elementary, Dr. Knox Jr. High, then graduating from KSS in 1976. His post secondary years were spent at Trinity Western College and UBC before attending Universty of Alberta medical school graduating with an MD in 1983. Following his internship in Victoria he moved back to Kelowna and worked as a substitute physician for several years before starting his own practice in 1987.
Lawrence is married to Darla, RN, office manager extraordinaire, for 36 years and they have 2 married daughters and 4 grandchildren.
Being a physician Lawrence knows the importance of preventative medicine and maintaining an active lifestyle. With this as a focus, following retirement from medical practice, Darla and Lawrence purchased acreage in SE Kelowna in 2021 and have started flower farming. She has the green thumb, passion and vision for this new venture and he provides the support. To see the beauty of flower bouquets following months of planting and nuturing makes all the physical effort worth while. Darla and Lawrence are also avid cyclists, both on the road and mountain trails. Given this they named their farm “Posies and Pedals”.
Having grown up and worked in the community he is keen to see that medical services in Rutland be as good as they can be. The Rutland Community Health Clinic will certainly contribute to this.
